Ahoy and welcome to the New World!  Travel back in time with "Columbus", discovering facts about the life of the explorer you never knew.  In elegant 15th century garb, Kenn Anderson delivers this timeless and intriguing tribute to Admiral Columbus, one of our most famous early explorers, exposing him as a man of vision, desire, daring and patience.

Presenter's Approach:
Kenn will:

  • In the elegant 15th century garb of the successful Admiral Columbus, Kenn relates the trials and perseverance of the great explorer that eventually took him to discover the New World

  • Reveals many little-known facts of Columbus' upbringing, early travels,  marriage, repeated attempts to enlist support of Europe's nobility, and his poverty years in Spain

  • If requested, provide follow up discussion questions for teachers or facilitators to use after the presentation as well as a list of books and internet sites for relevant supplemental information

Results:
Participants will:

  • Better understand the tremendous effort and perseverance Columbus used in  putting forth his dream of discovering new routes of trade

  • Gain insight into the complex character of Columbus - man of vision, desire,   daring and patience

  • Be better prepared to discuss both the Europeans' motives for expanding   their spheres of influence and the effects they had on the lands and peoples they discovered

About the Presenter:
Kenn Anderson has served in the US Navy aboard a large variety of ships, from aircraft carriers to destroyers.  Always fascinated by the sea, he avidly studies naval history and armament.  Kenn has made several voyages as a crewmember aboard 18th century square-rigged ships, including HM Bark Endeavour, a replica of Captain Cook's first vessel of exploration.  His passion has spread to his daughters who have also served as crewmembers.

In civilian life in the 21st century, Kenn instructs engineers and designers in CADD, Computer Aided Drafting & Design.  He resides in Scranton and dreams of the sea.
