Kenn Anderson delivers a mesmerizing and truly educational portrayal of an old sailor recalling his career at sea.  Beginning as a ship's boy in 1768, the fictional sailor eventually voyaged around the world three times with Capt. James Cook.  He imparts his love of the sea and shares tidbits of astronomy, botany, geography and culture he's picked up in his famous travels.

Demo available in two lengths:  
45
minutes  and  90 minutes     

Presenter's Approach:
With a sense of genuine joy and energy all his own, Kenn will:

  • In full historical costume and delightfully in character, present the "recollections" of an 18th century sailor

  • Use a combination of creative storytelling and projected images to take the         audience back 200 years in time

  • Explore the daily life, medicine, diet, travel, science and politics of the time

  • If desired, provide follow up discussion questions for teachers or facilitators to use after the presentation as well as a list of books and internet sites for relevant supplemental information

Results:
Participants will:

  • Be able to visualize a time and culture radically different from their own

  • Know that 18th century sailors were simple men of incredible fortitude who endured hardship, disease, loneliness, and brutality on their journeys

  • Appreciate the historical value of exploring fantastic lands and exotic cultures that were previously unknown

45 minute demo ~ $360
90 minute demo ~ $580
Plus travel expenses for locations outside of a 50 mile driving radius.

Logistical Factors:
Hosting organization must provide the following:

  • a stage, platform, or open area (measuring 24' wide x 16' deep)

  • electrical power

  • the ability to darken the room

  • ample room for audience seating

  • a sound system (for groups of 50 people or larger)

About the Presenter:
Kenn Anderson has served in the US Navy aboard a large variety of ships, from aircraft carriers to destroyers.  Always fascinated by the sea, he avidly studies naval history and armament.  Kenn has made several voyages as a crewmember aboard 18th century square-rigged ships, including HM Bark Endeavour, a replica of Captain Cook's first vessel of exploration.  His passion has spread to his daughters who have also served as crewmembers.

In civilian life in the 21st century, Kenn instructs engineers and designers in CADD, Computer Aided Drafting & Design.  He resides in Scranton and dreams of the sea.
