About
the Presenter:
Ms. Esty has turned a lifelong passion for the Civil War into a
wonderful learning experience for our communities. She has worked
in conjunction with the Historical Society and many schools to provide
first hand experience to the public of what life was like in the
1860's. She also awakens people to the role that Northeastern
Pennsylvania played in the War and pinpoints what evidence of that
involvement remains in plain view in our communities today.
Julie is the President of Auxiliary 10 Sons of Union Veterans of the
Civil War. She resides in Scranton with her family.
What
People Are Saying:
Julie has enhanced many programs at the Catlin house, most notably the
Annual Dunmore Cemetery Tour where she greets participants near the
Civil War soldiers' grave sites and talks about some of the local men
who served during the war. We are grateful for her involvement and
are happy to recommend her for similar programs.
~ Mary Ann Moran -- Director, Lackawanna Historical Society Enthusiastically
engages the students in the time period. Nice job reading to the
children, presenting demonstrations and hands-on learning
experiences which are age appropriate for children. I as an
educator would certainly without any hesitation welcome her again into
my classroom to do a presentation for the class. I have been very
impressed with her class presentations and complete willingness to spend
time with the children and her ability to whet their appetites for
history.
~ Maureen Wascavage, M.S. Ed., Marian Catholic Interparochial
School Dressed
in period clothing, Mrs. Esty connected our children to the children who
lived during the Civil War. Using creative energy, she
taught how needs were fulfilled and visions inspired. Our children
enjoyed a learning experience and we, as adults, relearned the value of
our heritage.
~ Kim Emik, Activities Director, Jewish Community Center, Scranton "My
class cheers when the Civil War lady comes to visit. She brings
history to life for my third grade class. Many students have taken an
interest in the Civil War because of her visits."
~ Mrs. Gert Gillott, third grade, Marian Catholic
