anyone who has ever thought of the perfect response
on the way home in the car, here are 7 simple techniques for thinking on your feet and smoothing out difficult social
situations. Diane Smith humorously shows that for
many a tricky situation, like when a question is too personal or
the invitation is one you want to decline, you can have one of
Diane's Dilemma Defusers at the tip of your tongue and
triumphantly leave the conversation with no regrets. What

Presenter's
Approach:
Finally!! Someone to teach us the art of repartee! Diane
teaches invaluable
techniques for staying calm and rendering well-thought-out rejoinders
which maintain the dignity of everyone involved in the conversation,
while clearly expressing what it is you mean to say.
Giving us more than trick responses and contumely retorts, Diane uses humor and an empathetic spirit as she guides participants in
the use of specific techniques and offers a safe place for the practice
of them. Those who feel continually at a loss for words, as well
as the
lucky few who feel relatively well-spoken, will both feel equally at ease
in this presentation. Participants invariably come away with
valuable, practical responses to some difficult conversational
situations. A few of the techniques covered in this audience
participation program are: Gaining Time,
Answers to Inappropriate Requests, and Strategies for
Sidestepping Questions.
NOTE: If
desired, in addition to the interactive lecture/demonstration, a
practical application component may be added to this program. An
example that has been very popular and has had great success is the
"Mock Cocktail Party," facilitated by Diane as a live,
experiential training session. The "party" gives
participants the opportunity to put what they've just learned to the
test and to experience even more successful social interactions.
One thing is for sure... Diane will lead you to a successful experience,
and successful experiences breed more success!

About
the Presenter:
Twenty five years ago, Diane Smith became certified as a teacher of
English, Speech and Drama. She has directed, taught and coached at
the high school, college and adult levels in hundreds of situations in
several states.
Sometime later, she also became credentialed as an attorney and was
heard presenting powerful arguments in the highest levels of courts in
three states. She has attended graduate classes, seminars and
workshops in psychology, linguistics and business
management. Throughout
her varied careers, whether it was to an audience of Girl Scouts or to a
young attorney who wanted a mentor, Diane, a passionate public speaker,
has shared the lessons she learned. Colleagues began to urge that
she share with a broader audience and "take her act on the
road." She sometimes wonders if they just wanted her
gone. She asks that after you experience her unique brand of wit
and humor, to please be sure to let her know which way you think they
meant it.
